Android System Updates in GPE

Since April I've been happily using @lost101 's optimized 5.1 GPE v1.1. Since September my mobile data usage went up and depleted my 150 MB plan, which should be enough for email and chat. It seems that Android System Updates downloads a 7-8 MB package regularly in the background, even when I happen to be on mobile, it doesn't care. I've just flashed v1.3, but I still see that once I open updates view, it offers an update and transfers data without asking.
I used to like GPE, it's very clean, but now it takes away my chance to use mobile data. Should I use a stock ROM, or what else could you suggest?

[Q] - Unlocking the bootloader, TWRP, rooting and (OTA) updates

Hi folks,
I recently got a Moto G 2nd gen. LTE that came shipped with 5.0.2 installed (the exact model is XT1072).
Now my plan is to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP and root the phone using this tool. As far as I can see this should work fine as the device is supported and there's a TWRP version available.
My question now is: As Marshmallow is officially confirmed and I already found out that flashing a custom recovery will "break" OTA, how could I get the update once it will be released, hence will I be able to obtain further updates once I run a custom recovery and "am" rooted - as far as I know the unlocked bootloader does not affect the OTA/update functionality.

THX in advance :fingers-crossed:

LG G3 great phone poor updates

The LG G3 is a wonderful phone but when it comes to updates I give it a grade of D-. It took months for the sync problem with WiFi to be fixed. Updates to 5 is behind schedule. Verizon blames LG for the problem.
As a consumer, I do not care who is to blame, I need a solution!
My next phone will be a Nexus phone. If Verizon cannot get me a clean version of the Nexus I dump Verizon and try Google Fi.
What's your feeling on the subject?

[help needed] how do i revert to stock and get OTA updates

Hey guys,

I am giving my old htc one m8 to a family member since I am upgrading so i would like to be able to get OTA updates again and completely unroot. I already tried before and made a right pigs ear of it.

Currently my phone is running android 5.0.1 and sense 6.0
s-on
unlocked
twrp recovery
software number 4.20.771.2
cidnum: H3G_001

I am still new to all this and really don't know what information I need to provide for someone to be able to help me maybe that's why it has been so hard to research a fix for all this. Any step in the right direction would be great help thank you.

OTA updates

Hello, I received my Zuk Z1 (a wonderful device) two days ago and managed to install Cyanogenmod with help of Paul O'Brien, Modaco and some luck.
My problem is that OTA updates are downloaded but do not update. Phone restarts to cm recovery and nothing happens. Any ideas ?

Where are the OTA updates downloaded to?

My phone downloaded the 5.1 update and I've been ignoring the prompts to update for a few weeks. Last nigh I bought mofo and installed one of compfreek's images, however overnight I still got a notification to install the OTA update (presumably because it's already on my phone). I want to delete the download so it doesn't accidentally get installed, where is it located?

International Galaxy Note 5 N920i on US AT&T - Updates?

Hi,

If I was to pick up an international Note 5 (N920i) for use in the USA on AT&T, how would updates work? The theories I have is that either:
  1. The device will never get updates

  2. Samsung will release updates directly to the device

  3. I will have to use custom ROMs for updates

Given that I will root the device (thus the reason for buying the international model), I'm assuming #3 will be the correct path. However, I understand I could run a modified kernel with the stock ROM to allow that, and there only seems to be one ROM outside of the carrier (AT&T/T-Mobile) threads. Could I use an AT&T carrier ROM?

I'm just trying to understand all my options if I walk down this path.

Thanks in advance.

Receiving Moto E OTA genuine updates even after rooting..

Friends...I've got few doubts regarding flashing my moto E first gen running on lollipop 5.1..I wish to root my phone...I've read on this site about flashing my phone..but few things are not clear..
1. I wish to maintain originality of android lollipop without any modifications but with root access...means I don't wish to flash my phone with ANY CFW after rooting..is this possible?
2. Is it possible to get genuine OTA updates from Motorola even after rooting my phone?
Please clear my doubts so that I can move ahead with rooting..thanking you...
