Volume too low

So, all of this started with an issue with my volume being too low when using a bluetooth or wired headset. From what I can tell it runs about 30% less volume than any of my other android devices including my phone. So, first thing I did is root so that I could see if there were any apps out there that could help. Nada. Then, I decided that I should flash a recovery so that I can use the variety of mixer xml editing (well, flashing technically) apps so I can raise the hard coded values ( hear they are set to 60 in the stock mixer paths XML on the LG tablets and max is 93 .. so yea thats a lot). Found a bunch of posts here and in other places and eventually used flasher to toss on Philz.
It was only after I applied it that I noticed a few posts indicating that this won't work on 5.0.2 and specifically, on Verizon tablets.
Now, I'm not having any major issues. Technically, once its booted, it works 100%. BUT, it does struggle with reboots and I often have to try a couple of times until it comes up. Honestly, I could care less about that right now.
But, I'm still struggling with the volume, and I can't get in to Philz recovery, and I'm still on a Verizon tablet with a locked bootloader.

ARGH!

Any suggestions for any of it? Volume, bootloader, etc? I would be ... HAPPY ... to move to a different rom if I could get the bootloader to work and if it would still work on the Verizon network (is that possible with Cynogen or any of the other roms?).
