Pros and Cons updating Moto E first gen to Android 5.1 Lollipop

Hi,

I am an owner of one Moto E XT1021 first gen phone. Right now it has Android Kitkat 4.4.4 on it.
This morning warned me of system update available to Android Lollipop 5.1. (and this in Romania).
I know many of other people like to update to the new OS. But I doubt in Moto E first gen is good this. And previously read on different articles about the main problem with the storage for this Moto E fist gen because of the 4G available on main storage.
I open this thread because I didn't found some other thread treating only this subject (pros and cons about Lollipop update on Moto E firstgen).
I wait for opinions especially from those already making the update and if there is a good life or bad life after the update.
What are the pros for updating, what is working and what is maybe wonderful ... and what are the cons, what is not working and maybe even blocking and annoying about Lollipop on Moto E firstgen?
Thanks.

Bumper / Shell

Anyone seen any bumpers/shells (just going along the periphery of the phone) for the 5X? I'll be new to nexus so not sure if the old ones ever got these.

I'm running one on my Moto X 2013 and its great. Lighter than a lot of cases and lets you keep the back open or put a dbrand skin on it.

Help pls, code for hor mov based on 24 hrs parameters

Hello everyone!

I've been playing with this awesome widget for a while, mostly overlaying images to do cool clocks and stuff
However I got to a point today where, inside a fisheye I wanted to put an image of a timelapse scenery that moves horizontally based on a 24 hrs data.

For the life of my I cant figure out the code (Even though Im a master in MS Excel) to make it move to a 150 coordinate at noon, -30 at midnight with a middle point of 60 at 6 pm and am, so basically it has to go back and forth, like this:

X Y
0 -30
3 15
6 60
9 105
12 150
15 105
18 60
21 15
24 -30

Im thinking on some IFs to pull it out but I cant put it together in the code for the widget.
Please help me :):):):)

Recovering all data from Xperia Z2 stuck in reboot loop

Hi there.

I updated my phone the other day and it ended up doing reboots with an error message regarding the update process. Before I hand it in for service, I wanted to make a copy of all the contents of the device..

So far, it looks like using some recovery kernel image and ramdisk is the right way to go, using "fastboot boot". What's a good image to use?

It's important that nothing is changed on the phone so I for example void the warranty.

Thanks,

Morten

Rear Camera/Flash Issues Recurring after multiple hard resets

Hi All,

So I've been having issues with my rear camera on Nexus 5 (my front facing camera works fine). Currently the camera and the flash will not work and basically stopped working some time around the upgrade to lollipop. While on lollipop, I tried uninstalling the app updates, restarting, clearing the cache...all the usual suggestions I've found online for dealing with this issue, but none of them work. Now, I'm currently running 6.0 and still the camera/flash are not working. Tonight I tried wiping the phone and reverting all the way back to kitkat 4.4.4 to see if that would fix it. I tried this multiple times, wiping and reflashing to various versions ranging from 4.4.0 to 6.0 to see if any would somehow fix the camera issue, but none worked.

At this point, I'm back on 6.0 and its still not working. My phone doesn't even show the default camera app in the app drawer. I have to access it through the shortcut on the lock screen and when I do I get the "Can't connect to the camera" message. I'm assuming its a hardware issue at this point, but wanted to know if anyone has any insight on this. From what I can tell, the flash is not part of the camera module, so if the camera itself broke, it seems like the camera flash should still be recognized and functional (its not in my case, not even an option for the default flashlight on the taskbar pull-down screen). I am wondering if its worth buying an oem replacement camera module and installing it to see if this fixes the issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Missing data mobile quick access in notification

Hello everyone. I bought a Galaxy Note 4 N910P one week ago. And then I recognized that it doesn't have mobile data quick access in notification on Android 5.1.1
I searched Google and Samsung says it is general error on android 5.1.1 of any devices. Samsung promised that they will fix it in the future. I think that I can't wait for them. So anybody in here can tell me how to solve the problem? Thanks so much

How to disable the capacitive keys and their keylight and install soft keys.

STEP 1
ROOT REQUIRED AND BUSYBOX MUST BE INSTALLED FROM PLAYSTORE) First you need to install the SOFT BUTTONS APP from the playstore. Its free of cost.
STEP 2
In the Soft buttons app go in menu and select capacitive key menu and then disabe option. Also then select the soft key menu and select enable softkey option.
STEP 3
REBOOT (restart your phone). You will see that soft keys are enabled and capacitive keys will no longer function.
STEP 5
Now for the capacitive key light some phones have option to disable them in settings. Others can download the capacitive buttons pro app on aptiode as it is paid on play store. From there you can disable the keylight.
Thank you, Have a nice day.......

Custom recovery or not

Hi fellow Moto G 2014 users,

Is it possible to unlock the phone and install CM 12.1 without installing a custom recovery?

Unlocked i727r for Mobilicity sim

I gave my girlfriend my S2 i727r I had laying around. She has a Mobilicity sim, so I flashed TWRP and installed the Blaze modem. I followed the guide from vincom. I set her APN to the Mobilicity settings I found on this site. I'm looking at the Network Operators section, and I can't find Mobilicity in the list. CDN Roaming, Wind, Telus, and Bell are the available options.

Is it safe to select one of these carriers (probably except CDN Roaming)?
Is there something I'm missing?

I'm in Toronto, if that helps

edit. I chose the automatic option just to see what will happen. Then, I just checked the About Device section, and it seems as though it is connected to Mobilicity. Data switches between HSPA and 3G. Is there a way to connect to 4G and LTE?

[Q]Rooting ALPS M1 (Random Chinese Nobrand phone) - CWM possible

Hello,
So i have found this ROM that i would like to flash my device with: http://www.mtkroms.com/2015/04/lolli...or-mt6572.html
I have found this information: http://www.mtkroms.com/2015/02/how-t...ek-device.html (Kingo Root & iRoot both failed)

Now i tried the MTKDroidTools program & following http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2519432 and it says this:

So, I checked out the link ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...nt=5&nocache=1 ), However, I would like to know if someone can make this idiot proof (I am tech saavy but haven't had to attempt something like rooting and android device before. I simply can't stand how slow my cheap chinese phone responds to things lol). I don't want to screw something up not that i spent much on it anyways but would like to get this done on the first try.

Automated apps didn't work so if i have to do that in order to get root then so be it.
A better explanation in steps on what to do so i don't get confused and screw it up would be great.

Thanks :D

Galaxy s4 displays first logo then shuts off.

My galaxy s4 only shows the first logo screen then shuts off. I can't get into the system menu with options however if I get into the downloading screen the phone stays on at that screen.

I'm Not Even Sure What This Is SONY XPERIA Z2 TABLET -VERIZON- POSSIBLE BRICK?

Hey guys, please forgive me for any bad etiquette or lack of information (any information I can provide is available upon request if I leave anything out). I am new to forums in general and especially to XDA, which seems like a good place to get help.

I recently purchased a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet from Craigslist under the assumption it was a fully unlocked tablet not associated to a carrier. Turns out it was a Verizon Z2 tablet. I dislike Verizon with a firey passion and without getting into too many details, I'm fairly certain they won't help me because a) this tablet wasn't purchased through them as a customer and b) Verizon and I have bad history (unauthorized account modification, shady charges, etc.)

So I thought I'd do my best to make the tablet mine since the asshole who sold it to me has ceased all contact and I don't know how to get a hold of him anymore. No receipt and a data-less tablet.

Anyway, I successfully rooted the tablet and began installing apps that I installed for my G4 when I rooted it (SuperSU, Adaway, Greenify, etc.)

Things were going well but I realised I wanted anything that had to do with Verizon removed from the tablet so I was going to flash Cyanogenmod onto it with a guide I found online. Now rooting and installing custom recoveries was familiar territory and I did these flawlessly. It had TWRP and I made a backup of the system -no Nandroid, sadly-and I began the flashing process. The process said it completed without issue and I went to reboot my device. Enter my current situation:

The device, when I attempted to turn it on, all it did was vibrate constantly until I let go of the power button. Attempting to enter recovery mode (green LED, power + vol down) it showed me, instead of TWRP, a very basic recovery mode with basic options. "Continue booting up", "enter safe mode", "system recovery", and "power down". I tried entering safe mode and it just shut back down, I tried doing a system recovery and it shut down. The only time I ever see the "SONY" logo is if I'm entering this mode. I can enter what I assume is "fastboot mode" (power + vol up and plugging the device into a PC). Nothing on the screen but the LED is blue. I am trying to find guides to restore it if I can and it all looks promising but the only things I know how to really do are root and install custom recovery. I know there are PC tools I can use to send commands to it while it's in fastboot, or send commands in general I just don't know where to begin.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I know it was from Verizon, which sucks, and I know the problem most likely occurred with the attempted flashing of Cyanogenmod. I think I read somewhere I might have done something regarding mismatching kernal numbers. I couldn't find a way to unlock the bootloader so I assume that had something to do with it too.

If someone could give me a guide to restore it to at least its stock ROM where I can begin rooting and installing a custom recovery again, that would be great. Even better would be just flashing a ROM on there that doesn't need Verizon or being able to take it to a stage where it's unlocked and the only evidence it was ever with a carrier is the Verizon logo on the back. I'd really hate to think I wasted money on this and now I'm at a dead end because of a mistake I made. This was supposed to be a gift for my mom on her birthday which is coming up soon. So if anyone knows anything, or has a guide where we can at least get the thing bootable again and I'll just try and deal with a rooted locked device, that would be great.

Thanks for considerations,

Marmalade_Shaws

N5X stock wallpaper (pulled from system.img)

Note that this is the real deal - unlike the unofficial N5X wallpaper that was similar but slightly different, this is the 100% official stock wallpaper taken straight from the N5X's system image. You're welcome!

PS: If someone with a Nexus 6P could extract the stock wallpaper from that as well, I would be very grateful. There's no system image for the 6P yet, so we need someone with an actual device to do it! This is how:
  • Open the /system/framework folder in your file explorer of choice (root will be required to browse the /system folder);

  • Copy framework-res.apk to your PC, and open it in WinRAR;

  • You can find the wallpaper inside the archive, it's located in /res/drawable-nodpi-v4/.

Thanks in advance!

Option to enable/disable "Mobile Data Traffic" missing

Hi, I'm a noob when it comes to smart phone setup, but saw the success of people here getting setup on t mobile with the Sonys Z5's so thought I'd give it a try (got an Z5c E5823 from HK).

Anyway, setup went smoothly, except for some reason under settings/wireless & networks/more/mobile networks/ I don't have the option to enable/disable mobile network traffic. It isn't that the row is grayed out, it isn't there at all. There are only four choices in this menu (Data Roaming, Preferred Network Type, Access Point Names, and Service Providers).

Anyone know how to get this selection available? Or, is it in a different place maybe?

Thanks! :)

Lumia 520 Randomly Reboots After Update

Hello everyone,

I currently have a Lumia 520. I am running WP8.1, OS version 8.10.14234.375.

About two months ago, I applied the "Random Reboot" system update.

Recently, my Lumia 520 has ironically been randomly rebooting. The reboots usually happen when I grab my phone from my pocket and hit the power button (to turn on the screen).

There seems to be no consistency in reboot timings.

Anyone else have this problem?

Is there anyway I can install any OS?

What happened: I was trying to manually update OTA. I downloaded official OTA from phone, then I chose install later. I accessed the phones download folder and copied it to my computer. I extracted it and flashed the firmware in it through fastboot. and it didn't pushed through.

What I can only do is go to fastboot and to TWRP. I cannot flash anything. I cannot get S-OFF with firewater because it doesn't have an OS anymore.

I think I need to install a Lollipop ROM because the firmware is already on 7.19.1402.1. Is there anything I can do? or do you have a ROM that I can flash on it?

Thank you in advance.

There is SM-T715N, SM-T715C, SM-T715Y that I know of. Can someone that has theirs on t-mobile confirm which one is the correct one?

Galaxy S3 I9300 Problems

Hey guys,

I'm from India and I bought the AT&T version, unlocked I think. The build number on the device is JSS15J.I9300ZSENA1. It runs on Android 4.3 Jellybean and is the Pebble Blue version.

I'm using Reliance carrier on it and having frequent call drops, connectivity issues and texting problems as well. Then I get this security notice which asks me to boot the device repeatedly and I don't have any clue why that happens.

Now, my main problem is that I can't use the device for calling purposes as well texting.

So, how can I fix this? When I tried to update the firmware, I found the At&t text on it. That made me think that this might be the right place to post. Anyway, will changing the ROM to a Custom one like Cyanogen help to fix this issue? I need some help with this as I spent some decent bucks on it.

Broke it... CWP boot loop

Hello, my tablet seems to be stuck in a boot loop and i've tried flashing the recovery and supersu again to no avail. I've also tried that exitrecovery zip floating around. I think I might have flashed a kernel by accident want trying to root.

Background
Tried using WinDroid Universal Android ToolKit. <- was successful in unlocking bootloader only. tried various times to install twrp but nothing would happen. The "recovery mode" in BL would just show android with caution triangle. I then used WinDroid's "commands" section to try and flash recovery. I may have flashed kernel instead? I have CWM 6.0.5.0. Help would be appreciated. This is what i get for trying to take the easy way out -_-

Wooden Backs Durability

For those with the current gen Moto X Pure with wooden backs, how has your back held up? Has the wood gotten scuffed or scratched? Or have you used it without worries and it's remained undamaged?

Flashed wrong boot file

Hi :) Well I had this big problem and I was close to solving it until i messed things up, I tried to not ask for help here but it's been a week and I can't find anything ): My g925p is just useless right now. I hope you can help me

Short version
Using Twrp I picked the efs.img to flash it and I didn't see it had two options ( Boot, recovery ) It's on boot by default so I guess the file flashed as boot and now everytime i turn the phone on it goes directly to download screen ( for odin ) ... I think if someone can make a backup of their boot.img file and upload it somewhere i could flash it and then everything would be back to normal ? At least boot into the rom .-. Thanks for your time !
By the way, When I try to transfer files via sideload twrp tells me i need a higher version for that device, And I have the latest version .-. Thank you guys :)

Long version
It all started when I tried to flash twrp with flashify, I guess i flashed a wrong version and my phone got stuck on a bootloop, I fixed it by installing the latest version of twrp and factory reset, But then it got into a bootloop in the initial setup, So I decided to Flash a light rom and it worked ! but it wouldn't connect to data, Before I had this problem I backed up esf.img and I thought it would restore connection, But then ... ( Continue in short version B) )

Thanks you so much for reading guys !

Poor touchscreen latency?

Has anyone else found the scroll/swipe speed to be slow on the Nexus 5X compared to other handsets? Annoyingly, I can't find any settings for this.

The issue is global and not limited to one app. With pointer trails on, there is visible lag between my finger's input and what happens on-screen. I've never seen this on any other device.

Thanks,
Ian

some questions

1-considering getting the 16gb in white. read a review saying you only have 9gb of free storage space to work with. im assuming the internal storage is faster to fetch files/launch apps than the sd card slot (theoretically using a very fast sd card)

what are the limits of the sd card slot? can I put anything on the sd card from the phone or is it for music video and pictures only? this is what worries me. not being apple to save apps to it and also lag because the internal storage would be faster and my day to day experience will be annoying.

2-is it true that using a bootloader/rooting voids warranty?

3-is there a double tap to wake phone?

4-how does the "hand swipe over the screen" to show the clock work when its in the pocket? is it constantly running? or is it using the perimeter sensor like when you make a call and turns the screen off?

5-I have a POS htc M7 now. to get in the phone, I need to press pwoer button>slide up to unlock> then draw password. 3 functions each time. I hate the phone with a passion.

if I could use a double tap to wake screen with the moto x instead of pressing the power button and also to disable the slide up to unlock I would be a much happier man. is this possible?

thank you

can someone explain why I can't get port.bat to recognize what com # is??

Xperia Made for Bond Spectre Edition

I started a thread by mistake in The Z5 Premium section for the Spectre Edition in September thinking that would be the Bond phone. I am a Bond fan and collector and have used the previous Bond phones. K800 from Casino Royale, C902 from Quantum of Solace and the Xperia T from Skyfall. Each had lots of Bond content including videos, ringtone, notification tone, wallpapers, themes and boot animations. The Xperia Z5 for Spectre seems to have minimal content with the best extra being the previously leaked theme. The device comes with a key chain in a Spectre box. One static wallpaper and one theme are available through Xperia Lounge. A few widely available videos and the Made for Bond advert are also available. Looks like a fairly weak effort to provide the specialized content as promised and falls well short of the previous Bond extras on the devices mentioned above.

https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Sony...d/td-p/2438672

For those of you that have the Spectre Edition, is this all that is available?

I corrupted my cache partition; now what?

greetings!

I was fiddling around and ended up corrupting my cache parition. Can't boot to anything but recovery and can't format cache in any recovery. Here is what is happening:
  • I get message: "unable to mount /cache when i can see the error

  • when I can't see error, recovery (say, cyanogen or stock recovery) just sits there on "wiping cache" with no feedback.

I can flash all the stock images from fastboot without error; except the system image. I get this message (in red text) after the system.img flashes: "sp space is not enough"

I dunno. Is there a way to create a cache partition?

PS: I just got it to load the factory 5.1 image but I can't download the latest update (roughly 9mb - yes I'm using stock recovery, stock everything now). It'll boot to stock recovery after I press "install update" but gets about 25% through, fails and reboots. /shrug

Suggestions?

Mobizen or alternatives?

Currently I'm trying to find a decent way to mirror my nexus to my laptop, however I haven't found any that are compatible with it yet.
Just wondering if anyone has gotten something like mobizen to work on the Nexus Player yet, or has alternatives for me.

$50 credit for preordering?

I've looked in my Google Wallet, etc. I never received the credit from Google. I ordered it within a minute after the Nexus 5x went live. Thanks in advance for the help. :p

[ROM] | ZyxxOS | 5.1.1 | V1.0 | Pure | Stable | Fast |

So what exactly is ZyxxOS you might be wondering. ZyxxOS aims to be a rock solid, pure, and fast ROM (as title states). So how does it achieve this? Let me tell you, ZyxxOS is based off android 5.1.1. but not only that but it is extremely optimized with Sony's framework, and other core optimizations. This is a pure android build meaning that what you get its exactly what nexus users get, a pure google ROM (No bloat, no third party tools, NO BS just pure google). If your looking to have pure android without any BS on your phone then your in the right place.

Based off Android 5.1.1
Pure Google
Most of Google's Stock Apps Preinstalled
Sony Optimizations (Fastest Boot You'll Ever See)
No Sony Bloatware
Unrooted For Stability and Android Pay Compatibility
Dual Recovery
Lightning Fast Thanks To Optimizations Of My Own
GPE Components
D2W Enabled

V1.0 - Download (Mirror soon)

V1.0 - Initial Release

Credits:
Google, Sony, Gustavo RD78 (Advanced Kernel)

Notes:
It might take 5-15 minutes upon first boot, don't panic this is normal.
I have only tested it on D6603, feel free to try it on other models and report back.

Need help with Layers Manager Update........ please

If anyone out there can help me, I'd really appreciate it.

I have a Nexus 6, Verizon, running Pure Nexus 5.1.1 (screenshot below)

I've been getting this irritating message for weeks now, stating the "Layers Manager" can't update via the Google Play Store. I don't know how to fix this and it's become quite annoying every night when I update my apps before bed.

Screenshot of said problem below.

I'm by no means an expert at ROM management, but I went from rooted stock to this ROM because I got tired of the google security update not working, due to my being rooted. I really like this ROM and this is the only problem I've had with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

issue with SM-N910P

I have a newly acquired Note 4 running Android 4.4.4 acquired in Thailand. The sticker under the battery identifies it as an SM-N910F, as does the ROM.

However, both Samsung Kies and the bootloader identifies it as a SM-N910P, the Sprint version of the Note 4. If I flash a stock Sprint 5.1.1 ROM the phone works fine. But of course, locked to the Sprint network, so useless to me in Thailand.

Could someone advise me on a 5.1.1 ROM to use that is not network locked to Sprint?

Thanks

White or black phone with a black case?

Hey all!

I'm about to order my Xiaomi Mi4C and I can't decide what color to choose, white or black. I'm usually going with black on all my devices, but now that I'm looking at available cases and I see pictures of a white phone with a black case, I think it looks really nice.
Worth mentioning is that only the backside is white, and the front is still black. So when you're looking at the phone from the front, all you see will be black. But if you look at the phone from behind, you'll see 90% black and some nice details of white.

Below are two images that show what I mean:

Anyone mind helping me out with this? What would you do, as a guy that normally goes all black? :)

New 5th Gen Fire Sound Question

I'm building a couple Kindle Fire's into the walls in my kids rooms to serve as a media player, task manager, alarm clock, etc. I was using a cheap android tablet from Amazon, but one of them had a software problem and when I returned it I saw these new Kindles for so just bought them, thinking it would be perfect.

They are not--but that is another story.

I have got the ABD drivers installed and am using the Google Play store, which solved about 60 percent of my frustration. Still waiting on Widget support, which I understand may come in time when the device is further opened up.

But right now I'm just looking for what seems like a simple issue, but I just can't find the answer.

I have the device running to a pair of speakers through the headphone jack--because my kids are heavy sleepers they need the amplified power from outboard speakers to wake them up.

But, the alarm only seems to come from the onboard speaker, which isn't very loud from across the room. I see the Kindle has a seperate volume control for media and system sounds, then I found further that if you go into Alarm:settings there is yet another volume setting for just the alarm, but no way to output it into the headphone jack.

I briefly flirted with using the alarm on Pandora to wake them with music, but that just doesn't seem reliable--when I tested it the alarm wouldn't function if the lock screen was triggered.

Any solutions anyone is aware of?

Root Checker Tool (RCT) Analysis

Hey guys,

So there are some on the H810 G4 that are having trouble updating to AT&T's 10o software after having rooted 10i. Based on some old forums for the G2, we have a hunch that it comes down to a flag in /persist/rct, which is nothing more than a set of 4 Hex keys. I am wondering resetting this key to look like an unrooted phone will get us past the failure during the OTA where it stops due to root suspected (error 0x1123004, around 5% through the OTA).

If you are reading this and happen to be unrooted, would you mind posting in the comments the values in your /persist/rct? Maybe there is a common set of keys that stand for "unrooted".

The file is hidden to non-root people, so getting the file is a little tricky. Basically, follow the steps in Part 1 (aka Step 1) of http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/g...-root-t3180586, but replace Step 9 with the following command, instead of the one it tells you to go get:

Quote:

dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 bs=8192 skip=18432 count=4096 of=/data/media/0/persist.img

Note that all you are doing here is backing up the /persist partition to your sd. Once done, you can mount the .img in Linux and extract /persist/rct. Open with a hex editor and paste the 4 keys below (but first, can someone provide any opinions on if this hex key is unique to our device? Would it be unsecure to post it here?).

If you don't have Linux, I am sure there is an app out there to let you mount the .img in Windows.

Alternatively, the LG G2 also had a loop hole where you could add a file called "RCT_security" to /sdcard with the value "forel.lee" in it. This would somehow tell rctd (the rct daemon) that you were unrooted. I am going to try this but am not holding my breath.

Let me know what you guys think!

S III I9305 Works with Charged Battery, but Cannot be Charged...

Hi guys,

My S III seems to be working fine once the battery is charged. I have been using another S III to charge my battery (which is very annoying).

I thought it might be the USB port and am thinking of replacing it. However, there are also other symptoms which I have not been able to discover anywhere else on the internet yet.

First, when pressing the power button on the side, the phone does not boot like it used to, i need to hold the button for longer than usual and then the charging icon appears, before booting to the home screen.

Second, the battery icon in the top right corner always has an exclamation mark in it like it is critical, but the battery will last as normal.

So, all these three things are connected to the battery and charging, but how? Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix? Remember, I can not use the USB port so the phone does not connect to my PC. Thanks!

Changing Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 housing from white to black.

Currently I'm in the middle of changing the full housing for my Note N7000. The original colour is White but I wanted to change it to Black. The problem is, the 2nd screen with white layout is sticked with the LCD behind of it.

Is it possible for me to transfer it to the new 2nd screen? I'll provide the picture with it later on.
Any replies are much appreciated.
