Ole fire TV that is not getting update no metter what

HI ,

I got a fire TV from a friend that is not working , an i dont even no why , the device boot up request me to connect to a network then try and download the latest SW and then fail applying it.

and i am getting the same problem , i dont know the version and i dont have any info on when it did work ... :eek::eek::eek::eek:

How to continue ? i dont mind getting a custom ROM or whatever is needed but i am stuck ...
