Sync issues

I have been having issues with my Google contacts syncing of my AT&T Galaxy S6. When I go to account setting, under contacts it shows a sync error when this happens. The contacts sync after I restart my phone, does anyone have any idea why this happens? Also for a while other apps such as my email weren't syncing as well, unless I actually opened the app. That seems to be fixed now, but all of that seemed to be related.
