Use Android stick to turn old monitor into "Dashboard" display for parents?

I'm trying to do something hopefully fairly easy, but I can't seem to find the right google search terms and my research hasn't yielded me any fruitful results.

I have an old monitor -- and I'd like to turn it into a dashboard (think weather, stocks, maybe a news ticker, maybe some rotating photos). Is there anything out there that would allow me to do this pretty easily? I'm open to solutions (Android stick, raspberry pi, etc).
