[Tutorial] [4.0 +] [Beginner] Using Google Keyboard; the Settings

For beginners –Using Google Keyboard; the Settings
For modifying Indonesian Dictionary
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/andr...esian-t3215118

Google keyboard is present in all Android phones. It is good, and fast, and highly accurate. If you know how to handle this keyboard, it will be your favorite keyboard. Let’s start using the keyboard by tweaking its settings.
  • The settings can be displayed by long pressing on comma, on the lower left bottom, of the keyboard

  • On the pop-up menu, touch “Lollipop 123 Keyboard Settings”

  • you will be presented with the main keyboard settings page

  • For languages, I use English (US) only. The Indonesian language is not selected for two reasons: (a) this will be incorporated in a separate personal dictionary, and (b) because there is no sliding/gesturing facility if you choose this language. Make sure all other languages are disabled as that will interfere with the smoothness of the sliding.

  • Preference: well, that is my preference. Make sure to enable Voice Input, as that is the ultimate input method, often better than sliding (will be discussed separately).

  • Themes: choose yourself

  • Custom Input Styles: get rid of them all. Delete.

  • Gesture Typing: I use that settings.

  • Phrase gesture is a facility to type one word by sliding, and then slide to space key, and slide the next word. I found it not very convenient as I use shortcuts very often.

  • Text Correction: this is the one that you will use very often, especially the Personal Dictionary. You are presented with several choices in this menu.

  • Block offensive words: works with English only; this blocks words like “f u c k” etc. But as most phones are used for personal conversation, I don’t think it is necessary to enable it. As I use Indonesian for every day chat, that also does not bother me.

  • Suggest Contact Names: the keyboard app will read the names of your contacts and will use it in the dictionary.

  • OK. Let’s start tweaking and touch the Personal Dictionary setting. I mainly use “For all languages” dictionary. Words are added to the English (US) dictionary as you type in the keyboard and added words from there.

  • In practice, to me, there is no difference whether a word is put in one dictionary or the other. All is treated alike as I only use one language, i.e. English.

  • When you touch either setting, a list of dictionary words is displayed, together with its shortcut, if any.

  • I touch the word “abaikan” and a separate page is displayed. Here I change the shortcut to “abaikn”, You may think that it only shorten the word by one letter; but in fact if you use sliding/gesturing, it reduces two strokes. From 6 strokes to 4 strokes, that is practically a 33% increase in efficiency.

  • Add-on dictionary: make sure emoji is installed, and uninstall other dictionaries.

  • There are a lot of Emojis in Google keyboard, such as arrows (right, left, up, down), smilies, physical notations (degree in Celsius or Fahrenheit), etc. You will miss that if you don’t install it.

  • Advanced setting: You can show up the Google keyboard icon in your phone main screen while you are playing with this app. And hide it from the screen when finished.

  • Back to Text Correction: in the bottom of the menu there is “Next word suggestions”. I usually disable it as it is not good enough and I use mainly Indonesian language (that the Google keyboard can’t suggest).

  • That is all, friends ...

[TUTORIAL] How to unlock more LTE frequency bands on Mi Note Pro

This was not made by me all credits go to ethan2k the text below is exactly what he posted on miui forum hope this helps.

Hi All,

After 3 days of researching and semi bricking my phone, I have now worked out how to properly unlock most bands of LTE for international use!

NOTE: This guide is for Xiaomi Note Pro 64gb China version only.
***** THIS GUIDE WILL UNLOCK THE FOLLOWING BANDS: 4G bands: LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 17(700), 20(800), 28(700) *****

First of all download this package. I have zipped it up into seperate folders.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-0...ew?usp=sharing

This driver pack only works on Windows 7!! Win 8 and 10 are not working!

Here goes:

1. Unzip the package into anyplace on your PC
2. On your phone type in: *#*#717717#*#* This will enable Diag USB mode for your phone
3. Before you plug your phone in, enable USB Debugging
4. Plug in USB cable into your phone, then go to Device Manager -
* Update the driver for Device Manager --> Ports (Com & LPT) --> Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9025 from the Zip folder: "1. Xiaomi Diag Driver"
It should now look like this, remember what Com Port the Diagnostic 9025 is using, in my case its on COM11.

5. Install "2. QPST v2.7 Build 4.11" from zip package
6. Install "3. QXDM-3.12.714" from zip package
7. Open up QPST Configuration
8. Go to Ports tab - By default it should have found the phone and auto added the port.

9. Leave QPST running in background
10. Open up QXDM Professional
11. Go into Options --> Communications --> Enable the Com Port your phone is running on.
12. Back to QXDM main window, in the "View" drop-down menu, select NV Browser

13. Now the fun part begin

Inside the NV Browser window, scroll down and click on line 01877 (rf_bc_config)(1); click the Read button(2), save somewhere the original value in case something goes wrong (inside notepad or anything), replace Input value with 3460734838925427584(3) and click on Write button(4).

14. Inside the NV Browser window, scroll down and click on line 00946 (band_pref_16_31); click the Read button, save somewhere the original value in case something goes wrong (inside notepad or anything), replace Input value with 0x0FF8 (please don't be an idiot and don't edit the empty one with "nam" in the name) and click on Write button.

15. Inside the NV Browser window, scroll down and click on line 02954 (band_pref_32_63); click the Read button, save somewhere the original value in case something goes wrong (inside notepad or anything), replace Input value with 805765120 (please don't be an idiot and don't edit the empty one with "nam" in the name) and click on Write button.

16. 10. Inside the NV Browser window, scroll down and click on line 00441 (band_pref); click the Read button, save somewhere the original value in case something goes wrong (inside notepad or anything), replace Input value with 0x380 (please don't be an idiot and don't edit the empty one with "nam" in the name) and click on Write button.

17. Inside the NV Browser window, scroll down and click on line 06828 (lte_bc_config); click the Read button, save somewhere the original value in case something goes wrong (inside notepad or anything), replace Input value with 2061853925599 (please don't be an idiot and don't edit the empty one with "ext" in the name) and click on Write button.

18. On your phone type in: *#*#717717#*#* This will now disable Diag USB mode

19. Reboot your phone and its all complete!!!

[Tutorial] [4.0+] === For beginners –SQLite Debugger to edit Google Dictionary

Tutorial For beginners –Using SQLite Debugger to edit Google Dictionary
For modifying Indonesian Dictionary
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/andr...esian-t3215118
  • Download the app from Google Play

  • Open the app, and this will be displayed

  • Choose App

  • Select User Dictionary

  • Touch words. Below will be displayed

  • SQL command (Select * from words) is displayed. To execute, touch the arrow in right upper corner

  • All words will be displayed

  • Suppose you want to change the shortcut for the word/phrase "Aduuuh...", touch that word.

  • The following screen will be displayed. Do you want to update something?

  • Yes, we want to update the shortcut

  • In that case, touch Update Value

  • The SQL command now turns into Update

  • But we want to update the shortcut, not the word… OK. No problem. Just touch Update? in the upper left corner

  • Now touch shortcut in the options. Below will be displayed

  • Select Enter Value (if you see your choice in the option, just touch that. But you don't see that now. Touch "null" if you want to get rid of a shortcut).

  • You just need to enter your shortcut. In this case, I try to put the word "aduhm", choosing the letter "m" being close to the dot button in the keyboard

  • The SQL command is now perfect (you can remove "word = Aduuuh..." if you want, by touching Update again. Try it...)

  • Just execute by touching the arrow in the upper right corner

  • Then you have to press "Commit" twice, in the screen below and next screen, to make sure you don't make a mistake

  • The first Commit

  • The second Commit

  • Done. The changes are written to file

  • You can get out by pressing the upper left arrow, or

  • You can delete the Where clause and execute the select command again

  • Or just press Back Button of the phone and go to previous commands

=======================
  • You also can add Bookmarks for the commands so that so don't need to write again next time.

  • The two arrows in lower left and right corner is for navigating through records, mostly for Select command.

  • That's all :)

  • Thanks for reading and watching

[Tutorial] [4.0+] For beginners – SQLite Database Browser to modify Google dictionary

For beginners – How to use SQLite Database Browser to change Google Keyboard Dictionary

  • Click Open Database. There will be two tables, i.e. “android_metadata” and “words”

  • Click Browse Data

  • Choose “words” from the Table (pulldown menu)

The content of the dictionary will be displayed. This “words” table (with the letter s) has 6 fields:
  • _id for indexing

  • word, the word

  • frequency, max 255, that is supposed to mean the most used choice. Lower figures mean more rare occurrence. So if one word that you seldom use keep popping up, change this to 100 or 10 or whatever.

  • locale: words considered system dictionary has the “null” notation. En_US means US English. This can be changed to null easily.

  • appid: don’t really know about this

  • shortcut: your shortcut

Just double click the record to change its value.

Typing certain letters in the FILTER will instantly show filtered records.
Try entering this :
  • hami% --> will show “hamil”, “hamili”, “hamilnya”. But not “kehamilan”. To show the later, type %hami%

  • ___ (three underscore, garis bawah) --> will show all words that consist of the three letters, One underscore is a subtitute of one letter.

Click on Execute SQL to write full SQL commands. Below, the command produces the same result as the filtered records above.
  • For locale, the value is "null" or "en_US" (without the quotes). This command shows all records with en_US value.

  • In practice, either value is OK; no difference in practice.

  • For frequency, the value is 0 to 255, with 255 means as the most often used word.

  • For Updating (changing values of) the database, use update command. Remember the table name is “words”, and the field name is “word”

  • For deleting, use the command “DELETE FROM words WHERE ….”

  • See SQL programming tutorial for further study but I guess updating and deleting is enough for the purpose of modifying the dictionary.

  • You may want to learn how to “import” if you have a lot of words to insert.

[TUTORIAL] [4.0+] Google Keyboard – With Indonesian language dictionary

Taking Advantage of Google Keyboard – The Best Keyboard for Sliding
With secondary language dictionary, INDONESIAN: for Rooted Phones

There are two types of people; those who prefer typing, and those who like sliding/gesturing on the keyboard. Quite probably those type 1 persons are not aware of the advantage of sliding, or they do not have the facility to turn their keyboards into something very easy and smooth, particularly those who opt for foreign language dictionary.
I will share mine, an Indonesian dictionary, with words carefully chosen; the result of my years of work. I have gained a lot from XDA and other forums; now is my turn to give back. As this is for Indonesians, I will provide a Indonesian translation below.

Quote:

It is clear that Google Keyboard for Android 4 has most advantage over other keyboards for those who choose sliding. This advantage can be further boosted by providing a double dictionary (point #1 above table) that I will give to you. Point #5 can be overcome by using the wonderful Shaftamle’s keyboard (see below) that he modified from Google Keyboard so as to be able to be installed as normal application. So, of all the 7 points I describe above, only #6, arrows, that is missing from the keyboard. Shame to Google engineers who does not seem to notice the importance of arrows in keyboards. Also for (1) making unacceptable changes in Lollipop keyboard that causes it not to recognize previous version’s personal dictionary, and (2) eliminating one of the most important features, that is point #4.

Quote:

What do I mean by “Show expansion in ONE stroke” in point #4? It mean, I slide over the keyboard, and suddenly the expanded word or sentence is shown in the text. I do not have to choose it again from the list above the keyboard as the case in Lollipop keyboard (in Redmi Note 2) or SlideIt. This saves hundreds of typing (or choosing) each day. What if one gets the wrong sentence? With one back-space, the whole sentence will be deleted. Easy…

Quote:

INDONESIAN - Apa yang saya maksud dengan “Show expansion in ONE stroke” pada butir #4? Artinya, jari saya digeser pada keyboard dan tiba2 kata atau kalimat panjang muncul di teks. Saya tidak perlu memilih lagi dari list di atas keyboard, seperti terjadi pada keyboard Lollipop (pada Redmi Note 2) atau SlideIt. Ini menghemat ratusan ketikan (atau pilihan) tiap hari. Bagaimana kalau kalimat tadi salah? Dengan satu back-space, seluruh kalimat terhapus. Mudah…

Principles:
  • The Google personal dictionary is kept under User Dictionary application and not LatinIME.apk or Google keyboard.apk

  • The file name of the user dictionary is userdict.db.

  • This is a SQL database that can be opened by most SQL database editors. It can be send to PC, and easily modified there.

Quote:

Prinsip:
  • Kamus pribadi Google disimpan oleh aplikasi User Dictionary dan bukan LatinIME.apk atau Google keyboard.apk

  • Nama file dari kamus pribadi (bahasa Indonesia) itu adalah userdict.db.

  • Ini adalah SQL database yang dapat dibuka oleh kebanyakan editor SQL database. Dia dapat ditransfer ke PC, dan dengan mudah dimodifikasi di situ.

Installation Requirements:

Quote:

Syarat untuk Instal:

Installation
  • Install Shaftamle keyboard.apk normally

  • Put the userdict.db in Sdcard and remember its location (e.g. I choose sdcard1)

  • Install SQL Debugger on phone

  • Open SQL Debugger --> App --> User Dictionary --> userdict.db. This will be displayed. Click that.

  • (Remember, the old userdict.db will be erased and overwritten! Backup with Titanium if you will.)

  • Choose “Restore from File”.

  • Browse and find the downloaded userdict.db. Click, and …

  • Done… You have a Google keyboard with 123 number row above plus double language dictionary.

Quote:

Instalasi
  • Instal Shaftamle keyboard.apk seperti biasa

  • Taruh userdict.db pada Sdcard dan ingat2 lokasinya (misalnya, saya pilih sdcard1)

  • Instal SQL Debugger pada HP

  • Buka SQL Debugger --> App --> User Dictionary --> userdict.db. Ini akan ditampilkan. Klik saja itu.

  • (Ingat, file userdict.db lama akan dihapus dan ditimpa! Backup dengan Titanium kalau perlu)

  • Pilih “Restore from File”.

  • Browse dan cari file userdict.db yang tadi di-download. Klik, dan …

  • Selesai… Anda sudah punya Google keyboard dengan angka 123 di atas keyboard serta kamus dwibahasa, Inggris dan Indonesia.

=============================

How to modify the personal dictionary:

  1. The simplest: modify straight from Google keyboard settings in your phone: See here later

  2. Use the SQLite Debugger application in phone: see here later

  3. Use portable SQLite Database Browser in PC: see here later

Quote:

Cara mengubah kamus pribadi:
  1. Paling mudah: ubah langsung dari setting Google keyboard di HP: lihat sini nanti

  2. Gunakan aplikasi SQLite Debugger pada HP: lihat sini nanti

  3. Gunakan SQLite Database Browser portable pada PC: lihat sini nanti

=========================

How to modify shortcuts:
  1. Any word or letter combination can be used as shortcut, for instance for “President Obama” you can use “ APQKH” for the shortcut, but will you remember that?

  2. Use shortcuts that you quite probably will remember (certainly you can not remember ALL of them).

  3. “PRESO” might work, but may be complicated by other similar shortcuts. I guess “PRESOB” would be better. Just try and try until you can find a shortcut that work most of the time.

  4. Choose neighboring letters if you can, or letters that are in line with the finger stroke

  5. If a shortcut fail you 50% of the time, you may want to change that shortcut. 80% success rate should be the target (i.e. the gesture fails only one in five attempts).

Quote:

Cara ubah shortcut:

Big thanks to @Shaftamle !!! without his work, this will not work in Lollipop

Requesting a kernel tutorial thread!

Hi! Just as the name implies, I was curious if any of you kernel wizards could maybe start a thread or even here just share some settings you guys use. I've changed several ROMs and currently using squids kernel but I've never been comfortable messing with the values other then headphone gain. I've usually just flashed preconfigured kernels and left it as is. From what I'm seeing certain changes achieve things like performance gain, battery save etc.. I'd love some thoughts!
