Any way to use Ambient display without turning on touchscreen?

As stated above. I have had it turned off since the first week. I keep the phone in my pocket and it will keep waking up, unlocking, and doing things including dialing people.

Maybe I have someone living in my pocket. ;)

Any mod out there? Would like to use the feature again. In the mean time I have been using the led mod.

Stagefright security fix, without sources

Hi all,

Today I'm pleased to announce a fix for stagefright's security flaws, which doesn't require to disable stagefright, and doesn't require stagefright sources either.
The sources, including a detailed README is available at:
https://github.com/archos-sa/securit...DROID-20139950

The purpose of this contribution is to propose a systematic approach able to quickly to re-generate firmwares that addresses the 2015 libstagefright CVEs by relying on binary patching method.
This method is relevant when dealing with platforms for which the source code has not been released publicly.
This proposed process is illustrated with 2015 libstagefright CVEs but can be further extended to capture other upcoming security fixes.
Surprisingly these fixes do not pass the Zimperium vulnerability test apk because this apk directly checks libstagefright.so without going through Mediaserver.
Obviously this is not intended for Cyanogenmod type of ROMd that most likely already implement proper fixes in their source code.

Included in the git tree are some prebuilts files, targetting AOSP 4.2, 4.4, and MTK baseline 4.2 and 4.4.
This has been tested on Nexus 4 4.4 (aosp4.4 prebuilt), a spreadtrum 4.4 device (aosp 4.4 prebuilt), several mtk 4.2 and 4.4 devices (mtk4.2 and mtk4.4 prebuilts). I believe it should work as-is on Qualcomm-baseline 4.4 as well (aosp4.4 prebuilt).

Stuck without a solution, any help would be appreciated

Hey guys!
This is my very first post here. I have been an active "guest" on this website over several years as I was always able to find answers to any questions I had here. But today I have finally reached a dead end road so I had to resort to finally creating an account to ask a question.

Phone info:
  • Canadian Samsung Galaxy S4 (Rogers) SGH-I337M

  • CM 11-20151004-NIGHTLY-jflte

  • Android 4.4.4

  • Baseband I337MVLUAMG1

  • Kernel 3.4.104-cyanogenmod-g8b03f0c build03@cyanogenmon #1

Problem #1:
I haven't had any phone service in over a year now, I've just been on wifi. Over this time, I've been updating CM every now and then. I now have gotten a contract with my phone provider again, they gave me a sim card I put it in, it works... kind of. Connection to the network stays only until I lock the phone (or it locks it self due to inactivity), swipe to unlock and service is gone, I get an icon saying "no service (rogers wireless) unavailable". It sometimes comes back on its own, and goes again. I have tried every possible solution I could find online and nothing seems to work. APNs are fine, ive double checked that they are correct. I've seen some posts suggesting that CM11 couldve screwed up my modem somehow but no other information I could find on that.

Problem #2:
So 2 days later (so much for my weekend) I have decided that maybe I should just dump CM and go back to original firmware. I found several tutorials and read them before doing anything, seeing what potential problems I can run into. Everything seemed straight forward. So I have downloaded the right firmware (5.0.1 for my phone from SamMobile) and decided to give it a go. I've tried it twice now and Odin keeps saying;

Quote:

<ID:0/025> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<ID:0/025> Added!!
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Luckly I haven't completely bricked my phone, it still boots into damn indestructible (buggy) CM! But I am just a bit out of luck I guess, I am really frustrated as I am paying for phone contract now but cannot use it to call or text. This might be a rookie question, but I no "flashing stock firmware tutorials" have provided many guidelines on whether I have to format anything though recovery mode before flashing stock firmware, just gets straight to it. Maybe its common sense? But I really dont know any better. So its a bit of a two way road now, a solution to either of the problems would be greatly appreciated. I hope I have provided enough information, please don't judge this is my first post here and I have looked for answers before posting.

In advance, huge thanks!

My week without GAPPS (sort of)

For the last month or so I've been having various problems with my phone and have flashed different versions of Cyanogenmod multiple times. Normally I then immediately login to my Google account, download Titanium Backup, restore all my apps, and go from there. But last week when I restored to CM 11 I decided not to do that right away. I'd noticed that Google Play Services, or Android System were constantly the top users of my battery, and I'd also been getting lots of force closes of system apps. So I figured why not try life without a Google account for just a little bit. My restore actually had one of the minimal GAPPS packages with it, but I haven't signed into Google and have disabled all of the Google packages I could.

I installed both F-Droid and the Amazon App store, and that got me to about 80% of the apps I actually use on a regular basis. I then went on to use my apps to see what if I really missed. The answer to that is, so far, not all the much. I'm using a really minimalist search based launcher, which is great...but I do miss having some information readily available via a widget. Some apps I used weren't available in either Amazon or F-Droid, but I did find an HTML5 app on the Fireplace Market...which seems to be totally fine for my needs.

The biggest surprise has been the battery life. From the time I first got my phone 3 years ago, even when it was running stock with only a few apps, it was a bit of a struggle to get a full days use out of my phone. And the variability was crazy, some days it seemed like I could run through a full battery in about 4 hours, while other times I'd get almost a full 24, both with similar usage patterns. I used battery monitor apps to look into it and sometimes they'd give me some useful information, but a good chunk of the usage always seemed to be core Android functionality. But this week my battery life has been measured in days instead of hours. The first time I went about 72 hours before plugging my phone in, and it was still showing 48% battery remaining. And this was a period where I was using my phone probably more actively than normal, installing and configuring a lot of apps, browsing the web, a couple of hours reading books, etc... I've seen similar life over the last 3 days, but I haven't let it go as long this time before topping off.

So I can't say for certain that this is exclusively due to a lack of GAPPS, I have far fewer apps than I previously did, and any or all of them could have been responsible for excessive usage, and I'm using a minimalist launcher, with no widgets, etc... But still, overall I'm really amazed at the dramatic difference. I didn't even know it was possible to get 4+ days out of a normal smartphone battery, this puts it pretty much on par with my old dumb phones.

So has anyone else run without a Google account for very long and seen similar results, or is this just an anomaly?

Install Xposed Framework to LG Spirit without recovery

This is method of installing Xposed Framework which is made by @rovo89 to use some tweaks without needing to modify system files (like SystemUI).
Original post was made in General Thread by @polfrank but I need to edit it with some new things which he is missing.

Code:

I'm in no way responsible for whatever happens to your device if things go wrong.
Your device is your responsibility, proceed with caution and only if you know what you're doing.

Apps and stuff which is needed to install Xposed Framework

* Root
* BusyBox - IMPORTANT, script don't work properly without BusyBox installed
* Terminal Emulator
* Root Explorer or ES File Explorer
* Installer script - Updated to work with latest version of Xposed Framework zip files. It shows some minor problems which doesn't make installer not working. Translated from Spanish to English by @midzan21 aka myself.
* Xposed Framework zip file - IMPORTANT, download SDK21-ARM variant, not ARM64 or SDK22-ARM variant, because stock ROMs are compiled with 32-bit version, not 64-bit. Also SDK21 is for Lollipop 5.0.x and SDK22 is for Lollipop 5.1.x
* Xposed Installer apk - download latest version and install it
* Brain.apk - just in case, but still important

Installation process:

1.) Put Xposed Framework zip, Xposed Installer apk and Installer script (extracted) on Internal memory of device (Internal SD Card, not your real SD card if you have it)
2.) Install BusyBox
3.) Open Terminal Emulator and enter this commands
3.1.) Gain Root Permissions after entering su command

Code:

su
sh /sdcard/installer

4.) Enter once Y to continue installation
5.) After installation is done open your Root Explorer (buy it and support developer of app) or ES File Explorer (free)
5.1.) If you use ES File Explorer obtain it Root Permissions and make / (root folder) and /data writable
6.) Remove all files from /cache folder
7.) Remove all files from /data/dalvik-cache folder
6.1 & 7.1) If you don't wanna to use Root Explorer or ES File Explorer enter this commands in Terminal Emulator right after installer finishes

Code:

rm -rf /cache
rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache

8.) Reboot device
9.) Install Xposed Installer apk
10.) Open Xposed Installer and check in Framework section check does it writes: Xposed framework version XX is active (XX is latest version)
11.) Install module which you want and after enabling it reboot phone
12.) Enjoy :)

Problems, bugs and issues:

Currently none, added to script to remove LG QuickCover which make Force Close

Old bugs, problems and issues:

Weather FC (Fixed with never versions of Xposed Framework)
Tethering and networks in Settings FC (Fixed with never versions of Xposed Framework)
After every boot you have Android is upgrading screen (fixed with never versions of Xposed Framework)

To do list:

* Update script to automatically cleans /cache and /dalvik-cache folders

S4 GTI9505 flashed recovery without root help

So I accidentally flashed the recovery package through Odin to a friend's s4 gt i9505 and i get a no access error in the recovery with an android and a red triangle. Since it has a custom recovery odin doesnt detect it. My question is what should i do ? . There is literally noone that has experienced the same (noob) mistake so there is no real fix. The phone is running 4.4.2 with an official upgrade to lollipop but KNOX was tripped so I would like to fix for him without having to pay for official service.
Thanks in advance.

RootXperia Toolkit 2015/09/26 (Or how to Root 4.4.4 without downgrading)

Hey guys!

First, before ANYONE says it, NO, this is NOT my work, it's made by CubeundCube, a (great) Japanese developer, that made this new version of rootXperia to exploit the famous CVE-2015-3636 (a.k.a. PingPong), so, go thank him in Twitter!
Unfortunately for us, this vulnerability is not present anymore in the kernel (as a great man said, Sony is not dumb :p), but in case anyone wants to root his/her device under 4.4.4, this is your option if you don't want to downgrade your kernel to 4.3 as Miche1asso tutorial, or root using Kingroot, which provides lot's of headaches (trust me...) and some people report that it sends info to a chinese server (who knows, maybe your IMEI info...!). At least this tool is much safer. :)

Where to download / What do we need?

Go to this link and download the zip file.
PLUS: You'll also need an adb pack, so you can use mine; and a ric disabler tool. You can use this modified EasyRootTool. Original one was made by zxz0O0, so thank him too.

How to use?
  • Unpack the zip to a folder in your desktop. Then open my ADB Pack 'Herramientas-de-flasheo.zip' and unpack the files inside the exact same folder you unpack the rootXperia toolkit zip. To check if you've done it correctly, take into account that the adb.exe and install.bat should be in the same folder.

  • Now, connect your phone with USB Debugging enabled. [To enable it go to: Settings, info about device, hit 7~8 times in Comp. Number, press back, go to Dev options, and enable USB Debugging].
If you get prompted with a 'Authorize USB Debugging' window on your phone, hit on Remember and OK.

  • Open the install.bat and wait until it says '--- all finished ---'. The phone will self reboot once during the process, don't worry.

  • Now unpack the modified EasyRootTool, open it, and execute the install.bat. It'll ask on your device for root permissions, so hit Allow. Once it finishes, unplug your phone and you're ready to go!

Hope you find this method easier for rooting 4.4.4. Don't forget to thank all people mentioned in this thread!

Root without unlocking bootloader

Hi,
Is there a method out for rooting the phone without unlocking the bootloader?
I don't want to unlock it because I want to keep the warranty and I don't need a custom recovery
